The Perfect Secret to Autumn Style

The Lovely Charlotte Lamb from Styling Out The School Run talks us through the best trends for Autumn 2017! Snuggle up!

Can you believe it is already autumn? I feel as though I have only just vacuum packed my knitwear and thermals away and shoved them up into our overcrowded loft. This summer was a bit of a wash out so I am rather excited to snuggle up in cosy knits and warm jackets having felt cold for 90% of the past three months. In fact I accidentally began shopping for autumn back in July when I was caught in a downpour of rain wearing only a white T-Shirt and midi skirt, suffice to say I looked like the loser of a wet T Shirt competition! That day to preserve my modesty (and prevent terrifying other people) I had to give in and buy a Turtle Neck Jumper thus began my autumn wardrobe planning.

As with every season we are introduced to numerous new trends and re-worked trends and this autumn is no different. It can be a fashion mine-field trying to manoeuvre through which styles you actually like and how to work them into your current wardrobe. Once again, with the help of Perfection Secrets, I have scoured the high street (it’s a hard job) and picked six trends that are set to be everywhere over the next few months plus you can shop the Perfection Secrets products you need to keep you looking flawless throughout the year.

So, put the heating on and grab a hot chocolate as we delve into autumn style…

Pop of Colour…

Next – Boucle Coat £68.00 . Mango – Yellow Knitted Jumper £20.00 . H&M – Cigarette Trousers £19.99 ASOS – Shiraz White Shoes £30.00

It’s easy to fall into the trap of wearing darker shades throughout the chilly months but this autumn bright colours are in. Colour was splashed all over the runways of the SS’17 shows and whether you are wearing block colours in seperate pieces ( just like I am above) or a multi-coloured dress be sure to opt for primary colours such as red, yellow and green and don’t be afraid to mix and match them. The high street is full of great, eye catching pieces all at very reasonable prices so this is an easy trend to work into your wardrobe. If you don’t fancy working every shade all at once why not throw on a Bright Yellow Jumper with Dark Wash Jeans and Boots or choose a Red Plisse Skirt and simply add a Black Roll Neck Jumper.

Over Sized Tailoring…

Stradivarius – Double Breasted Blazer £29.99 . H&M – Wide Shirt £19.99 . ASOS – Tailored Culottes £25.00 .  Kurt Geiger – Black Loafers £69.00

I think tailoring is often confused with work-wear and deemed to ‘stuffy’ for nipping to the shops or doing the school run in. This Autumn/Winter will see a more casual take on classic tailoring allowing the wearer to look smart and stylish yet low key enough to run errands. The best thing about this trend is how versatile each item can be, why not wear the Oversized Blazer fastened with Leather Trousers and cinch it in at the waist with a Large Belt to change the silhouette from loose to fitted or why not give the Over-sized Shirt a go with a pair of Skinny Jeans. Plus this season if you choose a Houndstooth Over-sized Blazer to add to your closet you can kill two trendy birds with one stone….

It Ain’t Nothing but Houndstooth…

H&M – Fine Knit Jumper £17.99 . H&M – Houndstooth Fitted Skirt £24.99 . Office Hold Up Sweetheart Black Courts £69.00

To me Houndstooth and Herringbone will always remind me of my suave Grandfather and the suits he would wear to work, but once again those clever designers and high street stores have taken a classic style and re-worked it perfectly for A/W 2107. This print is all over the monthly glossy magazines, Instagram accounts and shop floors and why not it is a fabulous trend. Think ‘Mad Men’ and wear a Houndstooth Pencil Skirt with a cinched in waist for a true 1960’s vibe or over-size the trend and wear a Herringbone Double Breasted Coat (a size too big) over casual Trousers and Knitwear for a more casual take on this trend.

Playing the Right Cords…

Topshop – Fitted Denim Shirt £30.00 . ASOS – T Shirt in a Boxy Fit £18.00 . H&M – Ankle Length Corduroy Trousers £24.99 . Accessorize – Black Beret 12.00 . ASOS – Shiraz White Shoes £30.00

Many of us hear the word ‘Corduroy’ and are immediately transported back to our childhoods where we would be reluctantly dressed in cord dungarees and flared trousers. Well, what goes around comes around and all of those outfits that have haunted us in pictures will now be re-lived in adult sizes! Corduroy is back in style and it – is – every – where! You can take this trend as far as you want, whether you want to dip your toe in and simply add a Cord Baker Boy Hat to your outfit or go all out and wear a full Corduroy Trouser Suit the choice is yours. However you work this trend keep it simple and opt for autumnal and neutral colours.

All the Textures…

H&M – Knitted Jumper with Faux Fur £34.99 . Next – Leather Look Leggings £28.00 . Office – Hold Up Sweetheart Black Courts £69.00

Studs, fur, velvet and leather are just some of the fabrics that will be making your look 3D this season. This is a great trend to have fun and be playful with, whatever texture takes your fancy just go for it and add it to your look.  Go small with a Studded Belt or Velvet Ankle Boots or take this trend all the way with a Faux Fur Bomber JacketVelour Jumper and Leather Leggings. Yowzer…that’s a lot of textures!!

Dotty for Polka Dots...

H&M – Tie Front Blouse £12.99 . Topshop – Midi Slip Dress £26.00 Topshop – Juicy V Cut Mules £56.00

Go dotty and add Polka Dots to your look this autumn. Prints are big news at the moment (think leopard, herringbone, floral) and of all them it is Polka Dots that are the most light-hearted and fun to wear. The blouse above is big and bold which is a great way to style out this trend but you can keep it subtle and vintage-esque with delicate dots on a Tea Dress or choose a brightly coloured Midi Skirt emblazoned with dots to work both this trend and some pop of colour into your closet.
